Presentation maybe ?


Hi ! My name is Hélène, I'm 24 and I live in Liège, Belgium. After 6 years at University and High School, I decided to do a break to focus on some personnal projects, like writing about social justice and continuing to be involved and activist as much as I could about Human Rights and Migration Crisis. 

I applied for an EVS because I felt bored and lost in my life in Belgium, so as soon as I received a proposal I packed my bag and flew to an unknown country. First I was afraid cause I had only 2 weeks to say goodbye to my family and friends, it was really difficult but the excitement quickly took over the fear ! 


I arrived in Resita, Romania, on the 22nd of  April, and I will stay there during one year for my EVS project. I am a volunteer for the association Nevo Parudimos,

I participate in the project VEFCI - Volunteering and education for civic involvement. We go in some schools, youth and elderly centers, kindergarden and orphanages to do some activities with the children, like games, dance, music initiation or introduction to english. The most beautiful is seeing them smile 😁

My first week was difficult, always asking me the same question "Wtf am I doing here???" But luckily, Carolina, Büsra and Mustafa (three other volunteers) came and picked me up to have some beers in the citycenter. After one week, I was reassured to see that the other volunteers (we're 16 for the moment) are all kind and funny. In the office too, we can speak with everybody if we have any problems, so I feel like home now 😊 

I live in an appartement with 5 people, Mustafa and Büsra from Turkey, Eva from Macedonia, Carolina from Spain and Lucas from France. And there is only one thing I can say : they all are craaaaaazyyy !

Custom Festival

In the beginning of July,  we volunteered in a Festival on the top of the City! We basically had to collect the trash, which is a good way not to pay the entrance 😏 The weather was really nice (once again to hot for the western European girl I am!) Anyway, we spent 3 days sunbathing on the hill with a wonderful view! We saw many artists and the one I'll remember is the concert of Emir Kusturica and the non-smoking orchestra! It was the last evening, and it was raining ⛈ like a never saw it here in Romania, they almost cancelled the end of the festival but we didn't care about the rain, we used big plastic trash bags to protect ourselves from the and danced all night long! Here is me, having fun like a kid!  And here is a picture I totally forgot about, and I'm sure my Coordinator Lilla too 😄

More Belgian than ever!

Two months and a half ago, I left Belgium. I was tired about its institutions and government. I didn't feel welcome in my own country... So I decided to move abroad but had to deal an other type of problem, called the Cultural Shock. Face a new language, culture, rhythm of life and way of thinking seemed so difficult for me, but I feel like home actually 😁 I've always had a good ability to adapt myself  in every kind of situation! Also, living with such different people from many countries is so interesting for me! Of course it's difficult sometimes cause we have really different cultures, but everything can be solved as long as we are open-minded! I met such wonderful people here, and I'm really grateful !  But now I feel more Belgian than ever! And want to share my culture and colours with every people I met! Training Course in Macedonia 🇲🇰

Beginning of December, the manager of the association (Daniel) proposed me to assist a training course about Human rights in Macedonia. I begged him during an entire week to take my flatmates with me, first because we are all interested in the topic and second cause it was our last time all together! He finally accepted, and we (Mustafa, Carolina, Büsra & I) all jumped in Daniel's car for a long trip to Kratovo! The training was interesting, all the topics were really well explained in a formal way, and the practice was done in a non-formal way : perfect combination for me! We stayed in a Hotel in Kratovo, the end of the world, according to Nazis back in the war time! I quite agree with them! We also had a free day to visit the capital Skopje, and of couuuuurse the first stop was to eat Burek and drink Turkish tea!
