First hitchhiking trip!
From the 21 to the 29 of July we (Mustafa, Basra and I) left Novi sad for a 8 days trip around balkan countries.
First experience for me, and such an adventure! If i go into the details, my article will take you 4 hours reading, so I'll go to the essentials parts!
Here are our trip :
Novi Sad - Zagreb (Croatia)
After many cars, a first Turkish truck driver took us on the highway, and offered us a nice drive till the Croatian border. He stoped one Km before, and offered us snacks, coffee, drinks and so on. After what we started walking next to the trucks in the direction of the border. Some of the drivers gave us what they had with them, I was full of hope! We passed the border and stopped to rest under a tree. We rested, laughed and talked about how to go to Zagreb. Then, surprise! An other Turkish truck driver stopped (Büsra asked him to hahaha) and was going to Zagreb!! We were so lucky that day! We watched a movie in the cabin, he stopped and prepare the dinner, after what he asked us if we found a place to sleep in Zagreb (we were over 20 Km away then) we answered no, and he proposed us to stay and sleep in the cabin. We discussed between us, and agreed to stay! I slept in a bed with Büsra, and Mustafa slept on the little one above us, while the driver was sleeping on his seat.
Next day he prepared a really goooooooood turkish breakfast (that's when I felt in love with Turkish food) and finally dropped us just before Zagreb. We visited, found a couch surfing place, walked a lot, walked more, more and more (Yep, Zagreb is reaaaaaaaally big).
Zagreb - Split (Croatia)
We couldn't find any cars in this direction, we chose to take a flixbus. We arrived in this city in the evening, and spent 2 nights there. We spend our days swimming in the see (under 40°celsius... I was dying, poor Belgian girl)
Split - Mostar (Bosnia)
We couldn't manage to take a car (again... Croatia isn't the best country to hitchhike). In Mostar, we slept one night in a really nice hostel, they proposed us to join a city tour the next day for a smile amount of Euros. We went with them by car to the most important points of the city. Our guide (the hostel lady) lived the Bosnian war, and gave us a lot of information during the tour, it was really interesting! This day was tiering, we took a train the same evening to Sarajevo!
Some picture of Mostar (Most wonderful place I've seen from now!)
Mostar - Sarajevo (Bosnia)
We arrived in Sarajevo around 10pm, and we couldn't find any place to sleep... So we waited for a long time in the dark in front of the train station.. FINALLY, one guy answered on the couchsurfing app! He had space for one person -we were 3! He finally accepted and came to pick us up after his work (we, again, walked a lot!) and arrived at his place! We slept the 3 of us in one bed, it was not that awful!
We visited Sarajevo the next day, what a beautiful capital! People from different culture ans religion are living there totally peacefully and it was really beautiful to see!
I was at this point of my travel where taking picture was useless, I have everything in my mind, I hope you'd see the same with me, really!
Sarajevo - Belgrade (Serbia)
We found some cars, but at some point (after the Serbian border) nobody stoped and it was getting dark! (I have here the funniest story of this trip, but I can't share it here! Trust me, when you don't eat, don't sleep, when its dark outside and you lost all your hope, everything that happen is funny -we were really nervous tho!)
Finally, one young woman stopped and drove us till Belgrade! She shared her internet connexion so we could find a place to sleep, she bought us water and chocolate, and dropped us just in front of our hostel!
Belgrade - Resita (Romania)
It was such a long day! We walked a lot, took many cars... (we didn't visit Belgrade)
Its was SO HOT during all the trip!
AH THEN :
I've met wonderful people, I've seen my limits, and visited mind-blowing places! Being free, feeling citizen of the world is a feeling I will never forget!
Little advice: Wanna get a wonderful tan and lose 5 Kg? Walk around the world!
